9 buried Alive In Zamfara Due to Illegal Mining.


 Dogon Daji village Zamfara was the location where the men, who were llegally digging for GOLD met their death yesterday, Tuesday the 6th of November 2012.

A witness, Shafi’u Abdullahi said, “we were inside the mosque when we heard about the incident. We rushed to the site and found out that the underground tunnel had collapsed and buried people alive. We used hoes, shovels and objects  to rescue the trapped miners but only one did we save who was rushed to the hospital in Maru local government.
There are about five illegal mining sites in the area.

Police Public Relations Officer Hassan Usman Talba confirmed the incident, saying the law banning illegal mining is in force, regretting that it is difficult to locate illegal mining sites.
Reacting, the state Commissioner for Information Ibrahim Birnin Magaji said,  ‘’We know that defiant people are engaged in illegal mining activities. We’ ve started arresting and prosecuting them. The situation will soon be arrested’’.
